The Bucket List

Yesterday I saw an ad for a pretty cool website called Reach International Outfitters. They sell these packs of 50 cards that each have an adventure on them. They make them for either specific states or specific cities. I thought, hey what a cool idea! Then I saw the price tag (on sale for nearly $60), and when I looked at the Washington pack, it was almost all on the west side of the state. There was exactly 1 in the Spokane area, and only a few more in Eastern WA in general. Then I thought, hey what about Idaho? But that would be like $120 for 2 packs that only had a few things near me.

Then, at like 4am, I had an idea. Why don’t I make my own? I have been having a ton of fun lately using AI (I know many of you will groan at that), so I set out to make my own. I could include whatever region I wanted, I could center it on my actual location, I could make sure it was appropriate or my family makeup and budget. This is what I ended up with. It’s live at https://thepete.blog/erickson-bucket-list/

Pretty cool! It created all these cards, organized by area. There’s “In Your Backyard,” the Idaho panhandle, even southern BC and Alberta. It has filters for nature, scenic drives, winter activities, and I even had it customize some ideas or Photography trips for Sarah and some couples gettaways for the 2 of us.

It even has a big trips list that would take more time and possibly more money.

The cool thing is that this all took like 30 minutes. And it’s completely customizable. I could go ask it to add some more expensive trips, or things we could do with another family, or things we could do over in the Seattle area, or more hiking and mountain climbing adventures, or add upcoming concerts, or…. You get the idea.

When we do one of them, we can check it off. If we want more info, you click Learn More and it takes you to an official website or something else (still need to fix some of those links).

I’m running this on my website, but it’s perfectly feasible to just create an html page that sits on your computer, and you open it up in your browser whenever you want.

As a test to see if anyone is reading this, feel free to hit me up if you’d like me to make you one too. Now that I’ve done it for our family, it would be pretty easy to replicate for someone else. I can change the theme and colors too if you want, as well as the types of things that are included. To get ahold of me go to the About page on my website and fill out the form.
